I have to tell how moved I was after I attended a recent charity event. I went ,spur of the moment to a fabulous event in NYC at the Metropolitan Pavilion. I was looking forward to an evening of fancy cocktails and swanky appetizers, and really my main focus was what was I going to wear to such a upscale event.
I was excited to rub elbows with celebrities and socialites, but as I walked into this affair, my outlook soon turned around. I was so focused the hour before the event, on the atmosphere I was going to experience and how my makeup looked. I got my fancy cocktail and waltzed casually around this huge space, and soon I started absorbing my surrounding and why I was there, the real reason. I then felt myself educating myself about this non-profit, connecting not with socialites but with the pictures of the real people in these gigantic photos that spanned this beautiful venue. Charity : Water is the non-profit, and I have to tell you about it. I have to spread the word, I have to make a difference.
charity: water is a non profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. They give 100% of the money raised to direct project costs, funding sustainable clean water solutions in areas of greatest need. Just $20 can give one person in a developing nation clean water for 20 years. Right now, almost a billion people on the planet don't have access to safe, clean drinking water. That's one in eight of us. Scott Harrison is the founder of this non-profit, a nightclub and fashion event promoter in NYC, he wanted to make a difference and he has. When I saw Scott at this event, he glowed of passion and happiness, it takes just one look at him to know that he can and has moved mountains, and more importantly has given clean drinking water to millions of people. The average American use 130 gallons of water a day, a day. The people I connected with in those pictures use 5 gallons. Most of us have never really been thirsty. We’ve never had to leave our houses and walk 5 miles to fetch water. We simply turn on the tap, and water comes out. Clean. Yet there are a billion people on the planet who don’t have clean water. A BILLION.
So I learned how one evening could change my life, how what I was wearing was not as important as the valuable lesson I learned, which is I want to make a difference. I want to challenge my compassion for other human beings. I want to learn to appreciate what I have in this world, and have empathy for those who are not as lucky. Here is the website www.charitywater.org. Get involved with a non-profit that moves you, give your positivity in your heart, have passion and compassion.. :)
