The symbols of fourteen religions are shown. Clockwise from the North Pole, they are: Baha'i, Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism, Wicca, Zoroastrianism, and Druidism.
I grew up as a follower of the Roman Catholic Church, or I should say, I was taught to follow. I've always felt close to a higher being, which many of us call God from a very young age. However, I started to question religion as a whole at a very young age.
Many people in this world are religious and for most of us it gives us an identity and makes us feel connected to a group.
We all want to feel that we are a part of a group, that we belong, which after all is a wonderful thing. However, what we do best is segregate our differences rather than bring together our similarities. That's what makes me sad about most religions. Throughout history War was created due to differences of religion. Why?
What I love about any religion is that it encompasses history. Many writings, institutions and artifacts were preserved in respects to the religion. Because of the people's dedication to their religion, they have capsuled our worlds history. I give credit to religion for inspiring fineart paintings, music, and family rituals.
Now most religious messages are to love, respect, care for one another, care for this planet, become prosperous, and create inner peace. Okay, so why are we at war?
In the last 10 years of my life I have taken time to learn about other religions and I have found that in all of the religions mentioned above, many of their beliefs overlap and have the same message. I don't consider myself religious these days. However, I have never felt so spiritual in my whole life.
My ValSecret is to learn and educate yourself and seek out the beauty on the different religions on this earth. We are all trying to live a good life as a good person. After all, we all belong to one group when we die, the group that is called human beings.
