We tend to each more than we should during stressful times, if you're stuck inside during the winter or you're bored? It's touch not to want to pick up that bag of chips, a chocolate bar, or that extra serving. It's not so easy to turn in away when it comforting and taste delicious.
Here are some ValSecrets on how not to eat too much;
1. Drink water: Most of the time that feeling in your stomach that makes you think you are hungry is really dehydration. Drink at least two glasses of water every hour. Also sip water in between as that will make you more full throughout the meal.
2. Eat a piece of fruit before you have dinner: The fruit will fill up a bit before you eat, which can allow you to skip on bread or the appetizer. We tend to over eat during dinner because we aren't eating alone and sharing food with company is comforting.
3. Fuel your mind: Do some research on how many calories your body needs, how many calories you intake and how many calories your body burns. Something might click in your head if you realize how all that extra food is not needed.
4. Opt for healthy: If you really want to snack on something choose the healthy choice. A handful of almonds, a cup of yogurt, low sugar granola bar, a piece of fruit are some great easy picks that will satisfy you.
5. Coffee and tea for dessert: Some of us have that sweet tooth and we can't fight it. A nice option is to have some coffee or tea for dessert.
6. Eat slower: When you eat slower you are chewing your food thoroughly and the action of chewing sends signals to your body that you are eating more allowing you to eat less.
7. Choose smaller portions or just eat half: Train yourself to simply just go smaller. Remember all your body really needs is to eat food that is the size of your fist. Anything more then that you will be full and gaining unwanted weight. Save the half portion for the next day.
8. Be satisfied not full: As children we were taught to eat everything on our plate. As adults we need less and less food to feel energized. Eat high protein salads, lean piece of fish or poultry, beans, tofu, and lots of vegetables should give you that satisfied feeling and at the same time have a nutritious intake.
9. Eat the healthy stuff first: If you have a plate that has steak, broccoli, carrots, and potatoes on it, eat the vegetables first. You are filling up on the low fat food, before you start eating the rest. The goal is to end up eating more of the food that is highly nutritious and less fating.
10. Savor the bites: Don't be in a rush to eat your food. Savor every bite as if it was your last meal. Maximum food enjoyment comes from the first few bites. If you do this with every bite you will be have a sensation of satisfaction and not wanting more.
