Here is MY Valsecret to calorie cutting at the bar:

Skip the Rum and Coke - instead lean on Seltzer and Vodka or another clear liquor. Seltzer is better than tonic because tonic actually has calories where Seltzer does not. If you have to pick between beer and wine - sometimes the beer is the better option. Red wine is healthier and usually is lower in calories than white. If you want a fancy, fruity drink ask for the bar tender to only add half the juice usually added. If you are getting a vodka orange juice - ask if the juice is fresh or concentrated. Concentrated oj will have more calories. If it is concentrated or even fresh, ask it to be diluted with ice or water. The less juice the better, because juice holds calories. These tips will help if you are having a couple drinks and need to watch the caloric intake, but just don't replace the calories you aren't consuming with food. Don't tell yourself "oh, well I'm not drinking as much so I can eat the burger instead of the salad" or "Well I'm cutting calories so I can eat late night pizza." No you can't. If you are cutting weight or just maintaining you need to stick to your goal. If the goal is to enjoy going out but not overindulge than stick to it. If you don't then you might as well drink what you want and work it off later.

No matter what don't binge because binge while dieting can be harmful to your health. If you've cut back on your calories or lost weight you may get drunk faster and could get sick. Sometimes a night of a couple drinks could even leave you with a horrid headache. That is just my experience. FOR me when I'm cutting calories I only drink once a week or twice a month and it is only one or two drinks at a time. Usually it will be red wine or seltzer with vodka and lime. Sometimes I won't drink at all and only order seltzer and lime. It is yummy and makes you feel a part of the outing.
