Facebook Geolocation Feature By Val

The rumor is out. Facebook is joining the Geo-Location space along with Four Square, Gowalla, Yelp, and Twitter.
However according to Tech Crunch it’s no longer just a rumor. Facebook has implemented in their privacy policy about Geo-Location. They are really doing it folks.

Could this be the end for other Geo-Location stand alone apps? Facebook so far has killed every other website that involves general social networking. Therefore, they can easily out-beat our innovative technology pioneers that just want to build something cool and unique. I think the only way that Geo-Locators can be saved is if they are focused on a theme or mission. I believe that the Yelp App could easily survive since they have a database of venues and locations with more than just check-in information. The question is, will Facebook start actually building a database of useful information that is not built just by the people? Will Facebook even make money off of this new mobile app option? They just need to jump on every social networking band-wagon it seems like to keep their users engaged. However, it would be nice if Facebook didn't become such a monopoly and give other social web/app companies a chance.

So now you are sharing, your name, photos, who you are friends with, your relationship status, and now..... a tracking system of exactly when and where you have been throughout the day. It seems like nothing is sacred these days. Will people pull back and say, “no way Facebook, now you have taken it too far” or will they embrace it and play along?
