Everyone can't take stop talking about the movie Sex and the City 2 and it's not just the giant billboards splashed all over New York City that influences us.
I have always been a 'Big' fan of Sex and the City, because in so many ways I could relate to the girls.
I always had a strong affinity towards Carrie, because I always struggled with my romantic relationships, had a solid core group of friends, and always battled in my mind with being independent and free vs. being in a stable relationship and lifestyle. I have both sides of me that pull me from day to day, but I still 'carrie' on, because I am looking for that 'za za zu'.
Besides the emotional struggles that Carrie and the rest of the girls go through, I always loved their individual style. They covered all of chic neighborhoods in NYC, from the Upper Eastside, to Williamsburg, Greenwich Village, to the Meatpacking District and encapsulated the style and the ambiance of NYC's diversity. Which I just loved and has influenced me in so many ways, including to be aware of how I carry my own fashion (which is a great thing). The girls teach you to own it.
All of the girls had their own style and agenda but they all came together for the brunch, late night Cosmo or their quick getaways. They made that a signature in NYC, where now every girl needs to have that in her life.
Yes, they paved the way for us every Sunday at 9pm on HBO and still doing it with their movies. The Sex and the City brand is so much more than dealing with guys, fashion, and a fabulous lifestyle it's a great series about how women stick together through thick and through thin, through their differences, and even through their highs and lows. For all these reasons, I love Sex and the City.
Sex and the City has taken over New York City for this summer, but it really has taken over NYC as a culture for over 10 years.
