Some many women don't wear appropriate attire for a wedding.
I can't count how many times I've been at a wedding and asked myself - "Why did she wear that?" What you wear is a sign of respect to the family and bride and groom - so put a little thought behind your outfit choice.

Now I know many women want to look hot or impress their date at a wedding but you need to do this with the type of wedding in mind.

My ValSecrets:
1 - find out if the bridesmaids are wearing long or short. You, as a guest, should try to match their length, especially if you are close to the couple-to-be.

2 - look up the location on the web and look at photos from previous weddings to get an idea of what guests wear to functions at this location.

3 - IF you don't have an outfit / dress that goes with the bride's look for the wedding or location - than ask around. Friends can be a great resource.

4 - If you don't have a dress and friends aren't a big help in this department consider altering a dress you already own, buying an inexpensive dress or shopping at a thrift store.

Guidance for types of weddings:
1 - Church Ceremony: What ever you do - please don't wear jeans, shorts or look like you just got done cleaning the house. Instead, wear what you'd wear to Church, work appropriate attire, the dress you are wearing for the reception or a nice pair of skirt/pants/ kakis and a clean cut shirt - nothing too revealing.

2- Ceremony outside: Either pick a dress/ outfit that works for both the ceremony and reception (if indoors) or change outfits in between. Some summer weddings can make sitting outside in a gown unbearable - so dress for the weather. Just make sure if you do wearing something different for the ceremony that it isn't too revealing, sexy, or over-the top.

3- Indoor ceremony and Reception:
--- High-End Location ---
Go for a long or a sophisticated party dress. If the gown/ dress it outrageous - tone it down with pearls or a low key necklace. If the gown/dress is plain dress it up with big earrings or a necklace that makes a statement. You don't want to show up wearing a summer dress to a formal sit-down wedding or a black tight mini to a sophisticated dinner. If a dress isn't for you try a dressy suit.

---Low Key Reception--- If you know this is casual then go casual, but again don't wear something too revealing. Try to skip a dress with thin straps that don't cover your bra straps. If you can wear a strapless - wear one. Don't wear something that is too short. Right above or below the knee is perfect. You may even want to a skirt with a blouse and jacket - depending on the location. Oh and if flip flops are acceptable - try to get a pair that doesn't show a brand name. Get a pair that looks dressed up. Maybe a pair with beads on the straps.

Those are a few of my Valsecrets for wedding wear.

Stay fashionable
