Upper Saddle River resident and plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Fiorillo, who has been practicing in Hackensack for over 10 years, recently appeared on an episode of Bravo’s "The Real Housewives of New Jersey." Dr. Fiorillo took some time from main office in Pearl River, N.Y., to speak with Town Journal about his time on the show, ‘mommy makeovers’ and what he does when he’s not in the operating room.
Dr. Michael Fiorillo recently appeared on an episode of Bravo’s 'The Real Housewives of New Jersey' to repair previous plastic surgery on cast member Danielle Staub.
Town Journal (TJ): I know a lot of people saw you recently on an episode of "Real Housewives"…how was that experience?
Michael Fiorillo (MF): It was great, it was great. I had a lot of fun. Everybody was really nice and it was a good experience.
TJ: Is there anything that happened off camera that we didn’t get to see or any dirt for the viewers of the show?
MF: I don’t think there was any dirt. Everyone was nice. The patient ["Real Housewives" cast member Danielle Staub] was great and basically what you saw on the show was what you got.
TJ: I know you mentioned on the show that Danielle is an extreme case of plastic surgery that had gone wrong. Have there been other cases that you’ve seen like that one?
MF: Well, I do a lot of revision stuff, which is a lot more difficult than the primary surgery. So I do a lot of women who do two or three surgeries already and are still not happy … and that was Danielle’s case, so I guess that’s how I ended up on the show. So, I do a lot of that.
TJ: What have been recently, the most common surgeries that you perform?
MF: I would say breast augmentation and tummy tucks. Those are the two most common. The ‘mommy makeover’ [a breast enhancement performed in conjunction with an abdominoplasty] is mostly what I do and it’s the most common.
TJ: Why did you choose to get into plastic surgery rather than any other discipline?
MF: I love plastic surgery because to me it is the most rewarding. And I also like the fact that you operate on all parts of the body … and I also like the fact that I get to operate on multiple ages. I’m not restricted to any age group. So that’s why I like it. There’s really not a lot of restrictions, I get all age groups, all parts of the body.
TJ: So when you’re not in your scrubs, and you’re outside of the office, what are some of the things you like to do?
MF: I’m a big workout person, so I’m in the gym all the time. I like to golf, and I like to spend time with my wife and four kids and I also have some ownership interest in a few nightclubs in Manhattan, so that’s how I keep busy.
