DON'T THROW YOUR WATER BOTTLE CAPS AWAY!! Americans use 2,500,000 plastic bottles every hour and most of them are thrown away! The majority of plastic bottle caps do not get recycled and often end up as litter polluting our oceans and wildlife.

There are several retailers such as Aveda and Whole Foods that have joined the fight to help save marine life by reducing the amount of caps littering our beaches and oceans. Once collected, the caps are recycled and turned into new packaging for Aveda products, like hair color and shampoo. You can get involved by organizing an office pool, starting a school collection project and/or being diligent yourself at home. You can drop-off your caps collection at select Aveda and Whole Foods stores or send them via mail directly to Preserve Gimme 5 program. Clean caps, as well as other #5 plastic products (that number can be found inside the recycle symbol inside the cap or on the bottom of lids and containers), are accepted. While you may have to pay for the postage to mail them, it is a small price to pay considering the cost is much less than the cost of polluted oceans, marine life and the future of our global landscape. Great one. There is this HUGE garbage island between Hawaii and CAlifornia. Most people don't realize that what they don't throw out doesn't make it to the landfill and instead forms ISLANDS in the ocean. Check this link out also: http://www.greatgarbagepatch.org/
